“Vintage has found its way into our closets and is here to stay” announced Vogue Italy just a couple of months ago as vintage pieces found in flea markets or in our family closets are a constant inspiration for fashion designers. Of course Vogue was happy to inform us that new vintage is now all the rage.

Get a hold of the trend with our picks as retro-cool is returning to the scene. For more vintage inspiration Vogue Italy provided us with a handy guide on what’s hot form the past in fashion this season.

Nude patent ankle strap sandals by Manolo Blahnik , antic pink coloured straw hat by Maison Michel.

Bold suits: a classic suit but crafted from rich textures, like retro-feel tapestry or like a dandy at the start of the 1900s.

Handbags: hand-held or dangling from our arm, colored and trimmed, in colored croc or small and boxy.

Bows: a symbol of nostalgic romanticism and a must-have accent for a ladylike look, ideally on the collar of a Gucci blouse.

Blossoms: little flowers and bouquets to wear. To embellish oversize dresses in precious, ethereal fabrics. Like an old-style lady, or a romantic chemise.

Small ‘Roma’ bag in dusty rose embroidered leather with Ayers details by Bottega Veneta.

Sunglasses: a key accessory to feel like a true diva! Choose oversize or butterfly frames. Besides dark and opaque lenses, try ombré or coloured ones, to add a 70s touch.

Shoes: the shoe strap adds a retro vibe: “T” bars, ankle straps or sling-backs. See the total black shoes by Oscar de la Renta or the coloured ones by Rodarte. The object of desire of all shoe-addicted (not just new vintage followers!): Gucci’s platforms.

Geek-chic layering: be daring with patterns and colours, as the new vintage has nothing to do with pastel hues, grays and whites. It’s like a photograph in Technicolor. Layer apparently contrasting garments and patterns, that will find their (fashionable) balance when worn and combined in style. To start experimenting, get inspired by Dries van Noten.

Puffed shoulders: armholes gets wider and voluminous. Like in a French redingote but on sweaters, shirts and dresses.

Short sleeves top in white cotton by Céline, ‘Faye’ blue suede shoulder bag by Chloé, sunglasses by Céline.

Coloured stoles. Handheld or resting on a shoulder. Today’s girls choose faux fur, solid colour stoles.
