If every plant you’ve ever owned has prematurely died, we have one word: terrarium. These self-contained ecosystems are a low-maintenance yet reassuringly masculine-looking solution for the botanically challenged – and few options are as evolved as the Biopod. Developed by the biologist Jared Wolfe, this app-operated device can create a self-regulating rainforest-like environment for growing statement plants in your living room.
This is down to sensors which automatically track moisture, humidity, ventilation, lighting and temperature then upload the data to the cloud. Once this is analysed, Biopod’s server adjusts the microhabitat’s conditions remotely. All you have to do is, well, absolutely nothing.
Web-enabled sensors adjust temperature, light, humidity, ventilation and “rainfall”.
A Wi-Fi video camera lets you keep tabs on your Biopod via a smartphone app.
While it’s perfect for plants, the Biopod can also accommodate fish and reptiles.
The tanks are available in multiple sizes, from 65 to 405 litres.
Its 5mm low-iron glass provides high clarity and a modern finish.
