When Atlanta trap star Gucci Mane sat down to review the Gucci Spring 2017 collection with us here at Vogue.com, it came as a shock to learn that he had never attended a fashion show. With a sybaritic stage name that pays homage to the Italian heritage brand and an insatiable luxury online shopping habit to match, Mane—né Radric Davis—knows what he’s talking about when it comes to the whimsical designs of Alessandro Michele.
A sunglasses aficionado, Mane immediately gravitated toward the “icy” bejeweled bug-eye frames. “Those are hard! I’ve got to get those!” he said, laughing. In fact, everything that delighted him—from the vibrant color palette to the snakeskin loafers—went “hard” in his book. The tailored tuxedos appealed to the “grown man” in Davis, while the stage-ready, tiger-emblazoned furs were just plain “nasty”—but in a really, really good way. With an eye for the smallest of details and the biggest of trends, the rapper will no doubt go hard on the front row next season.
