Forget Taylor Swift; for Tom Hiddleston, the ultimate love match might just be his bespoke suits. The British actor and former boyfriend of Swift’s has been tapped to be the new face of Gucci, joining Vanessa Redgrave and Jared Leto in the brand’s eclectic roster of celebrities. Starring in Glen Luchford’s ads for Gucci tailoring, Hiddleston sports an array of classic styles, from a refined smoking jacket, to a streamlined tuxedo with red piping, and of course a three-piece number in an unexpected shade of russet.
If the idea of a proper British gentleman in a suit jacket sounds too traditional for the Alessandro Michele-era of Gucci, rest assured there’s still plenty of opulence to be found in Luchford’s images. Shot in the maximalist Beverly Hills home of late design legend Tony Duquette, the images are bursting with patterned print and the occasional pair of fur-lined loafers.
Given Hiddleston’s personal affinity for three-piece and double-breasted styles, crossing over to the world of fashion advertising only seems natural. If looking good is considered the ultimate post-breakup revenge, he’s already scored a couple of points. Then again, he’ll be too busy testing out all those new Gucci suits to care.
